Places of Study: I have had a dedicated, daily meditation practice for nearly 20 years and led a mindfulness group for those with chronic pain for 10 years. Rodney Smith, guiding teacher of Seattle Insight Meditation Society is an ongoing mentor for me. In addition, I have studied with and have gone on retreat with Jack Kornfield, Joseph Goldstein, Sharon Salzburg, Steve Armstrong, Kamala Masters, Robert Beatty, and others. I also continue to learn from my own practice, my sangha and students-especially those who live with serious chronic pain and illness.

Styles: Insight Meditation (Vipassana) and Mindfulness

Focus: My focus is developing a meditation practice that helps make daily life richer, fuller, and livelier-even in the midst of difficulties.

Heartbeat: I love the places where ancient wisdom and the latest discoveries in neurobiology connect and point the way to fulfillment.

Blessing: In my own life and in the lives of my clients and students, I constantly see how meditation shifts painful patterns and helps us become awake to new possibilities.

Namaskaras: "People usually consider walking on water or in thin air a miracle. But I think the real miracle is not to walk either on water or in thin air, but to walk on earth. Every day we are engaged in a miracle which we don't even recognize: a blue sky, white clouds, green leaves, the black, curious eyes of a child--our own two eyes. All is a miracle." Thich Nhat Hanh
