Karen Cornell
Yoga Teacher, Artist, MFA
Places of Study: Completed yoga teacher training with Lee Guerreri. Karen taught at Yoga and Beyond and at the Island Arts Center. Studied extensively at The Yoga Room in Berkeley and piedmont Yoga in Piedmont and Fourth Street Yoga in Emeryville, CA.
Styles: Iyengar Yoga (BKS Iyengar, b. 1918). His teaching is charachterized by close attention to physical alignment in postures and the use of props-such as belts, chairs, and blocks as an aid to students in their practice. Karen's class is Iyengar based and heart centered, enabling one to quiet and go inward, to be able to really feel what is happening from the inside, and fine tuning your awareness of your own body. She also teaches Prenatal and Mom and Baby yoga classes.
Focus: The practice of "Letting go" is truly the way to find peace, and to open up to life unfolding.
Heartbeat: My yoga/meditation practice and teaching yoga opens my heart, and enables me to live more fully present in the moment.
Gift: My intention for this class is for students to get out of their heads and into their bodies. I want them to feel strong, confident, and peaceful, living from their heart center.
Namaskaras: My thanks and gratitude goes out to all my yoga teachers: Barbara Kaplan, Debbie Gilman at The Yoga Room, and Barbara Voinar at 4th Street Yoga, in Berkeley, CA. Lee Gurreri at Yoga and Beyond, Christy Dorman and Lydia Williams. Your knowledge of yoga and your deep innate wisdom has served me well on my path.
